a splendid novel comes to the silver screen
At long last, May Sarton's splendid novel Mrs. Stevens Hears the Mermaids Singing comes to the silver screen, as well it should, under the nurturing direction of Columbus, Ohio filmmaker Linda Thornburg. The story of a 70-year-old poet and novelist's journey to wholeness unfolds as she reflects on the love of women who have been her muses over the course of her life. Gorgeous cinematography, evocative performances, and Sarton's poetry come together in a film that's been called "The Merchant-Ivory of Lesbian films." A must for Sarton fans and a future classic of Lesbian cinema. - Khrysso Heart , posted 05/05/05
